Tomáš Baťa was a Czech entrepreneur and founder of the Baťa shoe company, which became one of the largest and most famous shoe companies in the world. Curriculum vitae

Tomáš Baťa was born in the city of Zlín in East Moravia. In 1894, at the age of just 18, he founded the Baťa shoe company with his brother Antonín and sister Anna.

Under his leadership, the Bata company developed rapidly. A key moment was the introduction of industrial production of shoes according to American patterns that Tomáš Bata brought back from his study trip to the USA. The company began producing affordable and high-quality shoes, which enabled it to grow rapidly and expand not only in Czechoslovakia, but also on the international market.

Innovation and social policy

Baťa was known for his innovative approaches not only in the field of production, but also in the field of social policy. In 1929, he declared that "the product of the company is not only shoes, but also the Czechoslovak man", the Baťa company developed its own philosophy, which developed into the development of the personalities of all employees. He introduced a system of profit sharing, which motivated his employees to higher performance and loyalty. In Zlín, he built modern factories and provided his employees with quality housing, education and health care. This "Baťa city" became a model for modern industrial cities.

Tragic death

Tomáš Baťa died tragically in a plane crash on July 12, 1932, while flying to Switzerland. After his death, his half-brother Jan Antonín Baťa took over the company, along with Dominik Čipera and Hugo Vavrečka. The development of the Baťa company continued.
